HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sustainability

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”

Antidote is devoted to being a socially responsible brand. Sustainability is one of our core values, and it goes hand in hand with our pledge for utmost quality. We want to make an impact on our community and our environment through our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Recycling
Program

Sanitising Cooler Bags

We want to reduce the amount of waste that goes towards landfills in Singapore. Your clean bottles and cooler bags can be collected from your residence with your next delivery. Clean bottles will be recycled, while cooler bags that are returned to us are sanitised so they can be reused again. Simply pass them to our delivery guys on your next scheduled delivery.

We aim for zero food wastage during production. This is why our juices are made to order, and are delivered fresh from our kitchen each day. We order fresh ingredients daily, specifically for the amount we need for the juice we send out that day. This way, we avoid food wasted from leftover ingredients.

Giving Back to Nature

We believe in the life-giving power of nature. We owe our success to it – after all where else can we find the nutritious ingredients that make up the core of our products? It’s the very heart of Antidote, and it lies at the core of what we do.

By taking the effort to preserve our environment, we keep our planet alive for the good of generations to come. That’s why we’ve partnered with Yakopi through Handprint to aid in mangrove reforestation.

Mangroves are an essential part of the global ecosystem – being able to store up to 4-5 times more carbon than tropical rainforests – a critical part of the fight against climate change. However, they’ve been rapidly disappearing around the world over the past few decades.

Our new initiative is simple and transparent. 1 purchase from you = 1 tree planted.

Why Do We Use Plastic Bottles?

So, why don’t we use glass bottles? Glass bottles have been shown to have a higher carbon footprint in terms of production and delivery. Plastic bottles need less energy to be produced as they have a lower melting point and are softer than glass. The same holds true for shipping and delivery, since glass is heavier than plastic and requires more energy.

On the other hand, Singapore does not have the right facilities for speed composting, so compostable plastic is likely to end up in landfills as well.

This is why we encourage all our customers to recycle our plastic bottles, so we can extend the life cycle of the plastic used to create it.

Plastic bottles made from PET or other plastic materials can be easily recycled into many different products, from tote bags to carpet fibres, or even into another bottle. The cost of transporting plastic bottles to recycling centres is low because they’re so lightweight.

We strive to be as eco-friendly as possible for a small business, and we’re always looking into how we can enhance and improve upon our sustainability practices. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any suggestions.

Why Recycle?

In Singapore, most of our waste goes to a landfill or incineration plant, which wastes resources and does nothing to protect our environment. In fact, our landfill in Pulau Semakau is expected to be completely full in 2035, an entire decade earlier than predicted.

In 2019, Singapore only recycled about 4% of more than 900,000 tonnes of plastic waste. Let’s do our part to avoid plastic waste ending up in landfills or the ocean. Many marine animals are severely injured or even die from being affected by plastic debris.

By recycling, we can:

  • Lower our reliance on the Pulau Semakau landfill and incineration plants
  • Create useful products out of waste
  • Preserve natural resources

How can we Recycle?

We deposit our recyclables into the blue bins located near our premises, which you can do too! Glass, Metal, Paper and Plastic can all be deposited into the same blue bin. To prevent contaminating the rest of the recycling bin, it’s important that bottles be thoroughly cleaned before recycling.

Just follow this simple 4-step process that we use to recycle:

  1. Separate your waste from recyclables. (Separate the metal caps from our bottles)
  2. Clean out liquids or foods (like from our juice bottles)
  3. Put it all in a cardboard box or recyclable plastic bag
  4. Dump it all in a blue recycling bin
